KUWAIT, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah honored Monday evening members of the Journey of Hope, who have recently returned home from a long sea trip aimed at shedding further light on people with mental disability.
Sheikh Salman, representing sponsor of honoring ceremony, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, said he was happy to honor a group of Kuwaitis who spent months sailing from Kuwait to the US to highlight this cause.
The Journey of Hope, patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, had sailed from "Kuwait, the Humanitarian Center, to New York and back docking at 46 ports," said Sheikh Salman.
The Journey of Hope, he added, "was like a Kuwaiti civilized and humanitarian beacon." Sheikh Salman underscored that Kuwait has always been taking care of the people with special needs at the government and private levels.
Taking care of the people with special needs requires an understanding of their social and humanitarian rights, he noted.
The Journey of Hope, which crossed 126,000 kilometers and visited 20 countries over 215 days, was not a "normal sea trip but it was a journey of the people of Kuwait, a journey of what they have in their hearts and minds," said Sheikh Salman. (end) tms.bs
