RIYADH, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- UAE national football team defeated Oman 1-0 in their match at Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium in the Saudi capital Tuesday, clinching the third place in the 22nd Arabian Gulf Cup.
The first half of the match saw an average performance by both teams as the Omanis tried to return to the competitive level they displayed during their previous matches in the tournament. However, the UAE team was able to prevent dangerous Omani attacks, keeping its goal clean until the end of the half.
In the second half, confident and skillful UAE players dominated almost the entire half, scoring their first goal at minute 59 with a powerful shot by attacker Ali Mabkhout, and winning the third place and bronze medals for the team, which won the Gulf Cup twice in 2007 and 2013.
The 22nd edition of Gulf Cup championship is to conclude tomorrow in Riyadh with the final playoff between Saudi Arabia and Qatar for the championship cup. (end) ha.ma
