DOHA, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Muzayen clinched a well-deserved men's singles gold medal at the Arab Squash Championship held at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Wednesday.
The Kuwaiti, recently an Asian Games gold-medalist, beat Qatar's Abdullah Al-Tamimi in three straight sets (3-11, 6-11, 5-11) to take the title of the 26th edition.
Meanwhile, Ali Al-Ramzi and Ammar Al-Tamimi both took the men's bronze, with youngster Issa Ghloum snatching the bronze for the U17s.
Speaking after his accomplishment, Al-Muzayen said the competition was characterized by "fierce competitiveness", with the final, against the home-born rival, being his toughest encounter.
The competition has prepared him for the 2014 World Championship, also in Doha, scheduled for mid-November, where he hopes to achieve top results against the world's cream of the crop.
He dedicated his triumph to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince, His Highness the Prime Minister and the Kuwaiti people, while expressing gratitude to backroom staff for their support.
The Kuwaitis are set to compete in the men's teams seniors, U13s and U17s on Thursday in the competition of four nations, which also includes Iraq and Egypt. (end) nnd.sd
