UN Chief inaugurates UN Day Concert

NEW YORK, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- "Happy UN Day," the crowd called back to UN Secretary General at UN Day Concert.
A concert entitled "Lang Lang and Friends" held at the General Assembly Hall - UN headquarters Friday evening in celebration of the UN Day.
The Concert featured the United Nations Messenger of Peace Lang Lang accompanied by an International Youth Orchestra representing five continents, which was conducted by Manuel Lupez-Gumez.
In these times of despair, a lot of conflicts and troubles, tonight's concert sounds a note of hope, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon addressed the audience.
Ban said the outbreak of the Ebola virus is just the latest proof that "our fates are linked". "All together, we are living in a small world," he added.
Ban affirmed that global challenges demand a global response, and the response is forged in the United Nations, in this General Assembly Hall. Thanks to partnerships with experts, activists and global citizens joining forces for a better future succeeded.
In his remarks, Ban stressed that the UN Day is a chance to pay tribute to our hardworking staff around the world, whom rush to danger zones, shelter refugees, feed the hungry people, educate children and foster peace, defend the vulnerable and demand justice.
Tonight, the 70th anniversary of the UN kicked off.
Special guest, song writer and composer Sting, along with Actor Alec Baldwin attended the concert. (end) mao
