ANKARA, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- Turkey will save USD 200 million and 1.7 billion kilowatts per hour (kWh) when clock change to winter time, due next Sunday until March 31, Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said Friday.
"Saving energy is an important and decisive thing to us," Yildiz said in a statement, noting the country would change the time when winter came.
He said total electricity consumption nationwide reached 256 billion kWh this year, largely depending on importing natural gas and oil with a value of USD 60 billion a year.
The winter time clock was used in Germany, Ireland and Britain during the first World War in order to preserve coal. Turkey implemented the winter time clock in 1925. (end) rs.bs
