Powerful blast kills at least 7 soldiers, injures 20 others in Egypt's Sinai

CAIRO, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- At least seven Egyptian soldiers were killed Friday in powerful explosion that targeted police checkpoint in the Al-Aresh city, north of the restive Sinai Peninsula.
The state news agency (MENA) reported that 20 others were injured in the bombing attack.
It added that the wounded, including many critical, were rushed to the nearby hospitals for treatment.
Over 500 police and army personnel were killed in militant attacks across the country since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi July, 2013.
Most attacks were in the lawless Sinai Peninsula, but the militants also attacked police and army targets in the Nile Delta and in central governorates such as Cairo and Giza, including a car bombing at Cairo's main security headquarters and a failed assassination of the country's interior minister.
Many of the attacks were claimed by a Sinai-based Jihadist group as revenge to the army and police killing of over 1400 of Morsi supporters since Morsi ouster. (end) asm.ibi
