If Iran nuclear deal reached sanctions to be suspended not immediately terminated - US

WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (KUNA) -- If a deal can be reached with Iran on nuclear issue, the US would look to suspend sanctions, then ensure Iran is "taking the verifiable steps that they had committed to" in order to implement broader framework of the deal, before sanctions would be terminated, US said.
"Only if and after Iran has been determined to uphold its end of the agreement would we look to lift or terminate sanctions," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said during a briefing on Tuesday.
If it became clear that Iran was not living up to its end of the bargain, "we would want to have a posture where we could quickly snap sanctions back into place," he said. "And so that is how we will proceed." The US and its partners among the Permanent five members of the UN Security Council plus Germany face a November 24 deadline to complete an agreement with Iran on the nuclear issue.
If an agreement is reached, the US Congress will continue to be involved in the process, Earnest said. (end) rm.bs
