Hagel meets with Spanish counterpart on Ebola, ISIL

WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel spoke with Spain's minister of Defense, Pedro Morenes at the Pentagon Friday night to discuss a range of topics including the Ebola epidemic and the threat of ISIL.
On Ebola, Hagel, "expressed his deep appreciation for Spain's support to the United States' efforts to counter the Ebola virus in West Africa, through Operation United Assistance," said a statement from the Pentagon.
"The two leaders discussed how each of their nations is addressing the virus, focusing on the importance of strict protocols to protect the American and Spanish people." On ISIL, the two first discussed Spain's role in the counter-ISIL coalition and Hagel thanked the minister for Spain's intention to participate. They also mentioned the "increased cooperation in Africa, particularly regarding addressing security concerns along the southern flank of Europe." The statement concluded that, "Secretary Hagel noted that the United States and Spain have a long history of strong defense cooperation, and they look forward to continuing to work together."
