KUWAIT, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- The Government is fully aware of the details of sudden layoffs of Kuwaiti staff by a communication company, said Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Justice Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, on Wednesday.
Each and every citizen must have access to work, and the state is keen to provide jobs, with just conditions, in line with the constitution, he added, referring to this as a "national duty." Recruiting Kuwaitis by the private sector is governed by law which provides for a quota to be taken in by each firm, and violators will face legal procedures, said Sheikh Mohammad. He stressed that the government is determined regarding the issue.
The Minister also expressed hope that companies operating in the country would observe this, for public interests.
He also expressed relief that Kuwaiti companies offered to take the laid off staff on immediately, including internet and mobile provider Zain, National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and Ahli United Bank - ALMUTAHED. The offers reflect a spirit of positivity and responsibility, Sheikh Mohammad said. (end) msa
