ROME, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait's Ambassador to Italy, Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, has briefed the top executive of the Italian news agency, ANSA, about Kuwait's long history of philanthropic works and the recent United Nations' acclamation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as an international "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." The meeting with ANSA's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Giuseppe Cerbone, along with senior Italian media figures, was held at the news agency's headquarters on the occasion of designating His Highness the Amir for the honorable title by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
It was an opportunity to shed light on Kuwait's ongoing contributions to the humanitarian field worldwide, said Ambassador Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), alluding to the gathering at the main office of Italy's top news agency.
Ambassador Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled said he addressed his hosts about Kuwait's policies, its leading role in facing diverse global problems, challenges and humanitarian crises, namely combating poverty, hunger and backwardness.
The Kuwaiti philanthropic activities have been led by His Highness the Amir "who adopts a unique approach mingling politics with international relations, with no consideration to interests -- rather on basis of humanitarian solidarity and brotherhood," the ambassador addressed the leading journalists.
For his part, ANSA's Managing Director Cerbone said the Italian media had reflected interest in the multiple Kuwaiti initiatives, particularly at the level of rallying international solidarity and placing resources at the disposal of humanitarian programs.
ANSA, which has up to 49 main media organizations under its umbrella, is keen on following up on the Kuwaiti relief programs, as well as the honoring of the country and its Amir, Cerbone affirmed.
In reply, the Kuwaiti diplomat noted great significance of Kuwaiti-Italian media cooperation for cementing ties at the grass-root and State levels. He also addressed, on behalf of the Kuwaiti community in the European country, congratulations to His Highness the Amir for the honoring. (end) mn.rk
