Seventh special flight evacuates 260 stranded Pakistanis from Libya

ISLAMABAD, Sep 10, (KUNA) -- The 7th special flight arrived from Tripoli in eastern Lahore city of Pakistan on Wednesday bringing back 260 stranded Pakistanis from Libya, said Foreign Office.
A press release by Pakistan Foreign Office said "This is the 7th special flight since August 13, 2014 operated by the Government of Pakistan for evacuating thousands of stranded Pakistanis in Libya. The total numbers of Pakistanis airlifted back to the motherland through special flights are 1,987. Around 1500 destitute Pakistanis, presently, housed in relief camps set up by the Pakistan Embassy in Tripoli are still awaiting evacuation." Additional flights are planned in the coming weeks to ensure that all stranded Pakistanis being supported in emergency accommodation are brought back to their homes at the earliest, as per Prime Minister's directive, said the statement.
Out of a total Pakistani expatriate community of 18,000, around 8,000 have been severely affected by the breakout of violence in Libya. Out of these, 2,700 were evacuated through land borders to neighboring countries and onward to Pakistan, the release added. (end) sbk.hb
