ROME, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- "His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahamd Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has performed an immense global service for his generosity that helped ease the suffering not only of people in Syria but also millions in other communities across the globe," United Nations World Food Programme Executive Director Ertharin Cousin said Monday.
Hence, it is well-deserving to name His Highness the Amir as a "Humanitarian Leader" by the UN for his noble role in saving millions of lives across the world, expressing at the same time her warmest greetings on this occasion.
His Highness the Amir "led the international community in an outstanding, exemplary way, particularly by hosting the two Kuwait pledging conferences. Each conference mobilized international support for Syrians affected by the crisis," she said.
She added "the United Nations World Food Programme is extremely grateful to the State of Kuwait and its people for their generosity and consistent support for our life-saving humanitarian operations. Kuwait as a donor has become an example to be followed by others." "WFP is very proud of its partnership with the people of Kuwait, she pointed out. This partnership has enabled WFP to feed millions of vulnerable Syrians affected by the crisis and has undoubtedly saved many lives," she added.
"As a 100 percent voluntarily funded organization, the generosity of countries such as Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people provide the lifeblood of WFP. We could not assist anyone without it," she expressed her gratefulness. (end) mn.nfm
