Pakistan ensures security to foreign embassies in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Sep 2 (KUNA) -- The Pakistani government Monday rebuffed reports about closure of foreign embassies and vowed to ensure the security and safety of foreign missions and diplomats after the violent clashes that rocked the capital.
"Keeping with our responsibility to protect all diplomatic missions and personnel, the Government has directed security agencies to take necessary precautions for the security of the Diplomatic Missions in Islamabad," Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam Khan said in press release.
Commenting on circulated media reports about the closure of embassies in Islamabad, Khan clarified that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has neither received nor issued any such advice.
The embassies have also been advised to exercise caution while moving around in the city, she added.
The statement by the Foreign Office came after violent clashes between police and protesters of political parties Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Red Zone of Islamabad having embassies and important government offices. (end) sbk.ibi
