Over 100 protesters, policemen injured in clashes in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Over 100 people were injured in clashes between anti-government protesters and policemen here on Saturday.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said in a statement supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) attempted to occupy the Prime Minister's house and the Parliament.
Nisar visited the Red Zone where foreign embassies and important government offices are located as protesters marched towards PM house.
He said one of the PTI and PAT breached their promise and attempted to break into the PM house and Parliament, prompting the police to fire tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters. Violence broke out after the protesters attempted to remove containers in front of the PM house, using a crane that has injured over hundred people so far. Meanwhile, a prominent political party, Mutahida Qaumi Moverment, (MQM) announced plan to observe a Day of Mourning over the incident.
Chairman of PTI Imran Khan and Chairman of PAT Dr. Tahir ul Qadri have announced that their followers would remain peaceful and will never cause any damage to the democracy.
PAT and PTI have been staging a protest sit-in with thousands of supporters over the last fortnight in front of the parliament against the alleged rigging in 2013 general elections. (pickup previous) sbk.gb
