US aircraft carrying military equipment arrives in Lebanon

BEIRUT, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- A U.S. military aircraft arrived in Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport Friday carrying ammunition and military equipment to aid the Lebanese Army.
The military assistance falls within the framework of the U.S. aid program designed for the Lebanese military, and based on signed agreements and commitments on supplying the army with military equipment and heavy arms in order to boost its defensive and security abilities, media sources said.
The U.S. military aid comes in response to a request by the Lebanese authorities following a cross-border attack by militants from Syria on a Lebanese town earlier this month, where Lebanese soldiers were killed and kidnapped. (end) amh.ma
