Kuwait, Switzerland agree Gaza crisis must be tackled urgently

(WITH PARL-SWITZERLAND-KUWAIT) By Tamer Abulainain GENEVA, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait and Switzerland are in consensus on necessity of dealing with the "horrific situation" in Gaza urgently, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Swiss Federation announced her on Wednesday.
Assessing results of the visit by the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim to the European state, Ambassador Bader Al-Tunaib said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the two sides agree on means to tackle the Gaza crisis.
"The Kuwaiti and Swiss views are in full harmony with respect of the necessity to halt the Palestinians' plight in Gaza Strip, as well as on the necessity to deal with the horrific humanitarian situation in an urgent manner," the Ambassador told KUNA, stressing that Switzerland and Kuwait are in consensus on how to address the crisis in the enclave, where scores of Palestinians died and many properties were demolished in the latest fighting between the Palestinians and Israelis.
He lauded outcome of the National Assembly's Speaker's mission in Switzerland, saying it "bolsters the parliamentary relations between the two friendly peoples, particular with respect to the fact that there has been understanding between the Kuwaiti and Swiss Parliaments on many international issues of common concern." The visit by the Parliament Speaker, who was accompanied by Kuwaiti legislators, has coincided with efforts by the State of Kuwait to nudge the international community hold a conference to tackle the civilians' hardships in Gaza, in line with the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Elaborating, Ambassador Al-Tunaib has indicated that the Swiss and Kuwaiti peoples share similar principles and values, namely democracy, freedom of the press and respect for human rights; bonds that render "understanding between the two sides on various issues crowned with success." (end) ta.rk
