34 Pakistani lawmakers tender resignation from lower house

ISLAMABAD, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- All lawmakers of the political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) submitted their resignations from the lower house on Friday in protest to the alleged rigging in 2013 general elections.
Vice Chairman of PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi submitted the resignations of all 34 Members of National Assembly (MNAs) to the speaker's office as the party continues to lead a sit-in in the federal capital Islamabad demanding the resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier last week, PTI decided to resign from the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies except the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly where it has formed the government.
A lawmaker from PTI, Murad Saeed told KUNA, "We had already given our resignations to our chairman, and now we have also completed the formal procedure of submitting them to the National Assembly speaker." Qureshi after submitting the resignation told media that the party would take guidance from the Constitution, adding that the sit-in would not remain restricted to Islamabad.
He accused that the 2013 general elections were not free and fair. PTI leadership summoned a session of the party's core committee to deliberate on future strategy following the submission of resignations. (end) sbk.ibi
