Pakistan condemns US drone strike on its territory

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- The Government of Pakistan on Thursday condemned the incident of a US drone strike that took place in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, said Foreign Office press release.
According to Pakistan Foreign Office, Pakistan regards such strikes as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. These strikes also have a negative impact on the Government's efforts to bring peace and stability in Pakistan and the region. We therefore expect immediate cessation of such strikes.
Earlier, it was reported that at least six militants were killed and many others wounded in a United States drone strike in North Waziristan. Some media reports suggested that the killed militants included foreigners but the identity of the militants could not be ascertained yet.
The drone strike came at a time when Pakistan is undergoing a comprehensive military operation in North Waziristan against the local and foreign militants. This is the fourth US drone strike since the launch of the operation 'Zarb e Azb' on June 15. (end) sbk.hs
