EU expresses condolences with Algeria, France over air disaster

BRUSSELS, July 25 (KUNA) - The President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, and President of the European Council, Herma Van Rompuy, Friday on behalf of the European Union conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the Air Algerie flight that crashed in Mali early Thursday. "We also wish to express our sympathy and solidarity to the governments of all affected nations, including to the French and Algerian Presidents," they said in a joint statement.
All 116 passengers, including 51 French citizens, on the Air Algerie flight, are feared dead after the jetliner crashed near Mali's border with Burkina Faso.
It was flying from Burkina Faso's capital, Ougadougou, to Algiers. According to media report, the crash is linked with bad weather conditions in the area. (end) nk.ajs
