DUBAI, July 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti citizen Abdulrahman Al-Shuwaie came fifth at Dubai International Holy Quran Award which concluded Friday.
The Quran memorization and recitation competition witnessed a fierce competition among 90 contestants from the four corners of the globe.
The Nigerian contestant Sulaiman Abdulkarim Isah won the top position in the international Quran completion category of the Award followed by Saudi Omar Hussain Baeisa and Yemeni Mohammed Khaled Yaseen.
Qatari Abdulaziz Abdulla Al-Hamri occupied the fourth place preceding Kuwaiti Al-Shuwaie who came at the fifth place.
The winners-announcing and prize-giving ceremony was held late Friday at Cultural and Scientific Association HQ in Dubai.
The event was attended by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of a number of ministers, senior officials, and dignitaries.
Annually, the Dubai International Holy Quran Award is given to people who memorize and recite the Quran. In addition, an Islamic Personality of the Year Award is presented to an eminent Muslim personality or an outstanding Islamic organization.
Only one contestant per country can participate in the memorisation competition.
The Award was established in order to encourage young Muslims to memorize and understand the Holy Quran, and to spread the Quranic values of peace and love. (end) hni.ibi
