LONDON, June 24 (KUNA) -- Britain said Tuesday only the Iraqi people could decide fate of Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki.
The British government cannot impose a solution on the Iraqi people specially amidst the current difficult security circumstances in Iraq, Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa Hugh Robertson told KUNA and Kuwait TV following the fourth meeting of the joint Steering Group between Britain and Kuwait.
Britain believes any solution should lead to the formation of an inclusive government in Iraq which consist of all parties, he asserted.
"Iraq is in need of a political not military solution, and this is a vision shared by many countries in the region," he added.
He expressed concerns about developments in Iraq namely after the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) captured key areas in northern Iraq.
Robertson said the events in Iraq were "posing a great threat to security and stability of the entire region." It is of Kuwait's and Britain's interests to see security situation improves in Iraq, he added.
Robertson's remarks came as British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond was on a two-day tour in the region that will take him to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar.
Hammond will be meeting with his counterparts in the Arabian Gulf countries to discuss the security developments in Iraq. (end) kd.mrn.bs
