Battles in Syria claim 50 lives - SOHR

AMMAN, June 14 (KUN) -- At least 50 people were killed in raging battles across Syria on Saturday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
The Syrian warplanes dropped powder kegs on the rural outskirts of the northern city of Aleppo, killing 13 people and wounding scores of others besides extensive material damage.
The Islamist Al-Nusra Front attacked the regular troops in the vicinity of Aleppo Central Prison, inflicting a yet-to-be-specified number of casualties, according to SOHR report.
The armed opposition factions captured 10 soldiers while controlling Tall Al-Gomo', near Nawa town in the southern governorate of Daraa this morning; eight opposition fighters were killed in the battle, SOHR noted.
On April 30, the opposition groups announced the start of battle called "Yarmouk - Khaled Bin Al-Waleed" to control the strategic site of Tall Al-Gomoh in retaliation for powder keg attacks by the regular troops.
In the eastern governorate of Deir Az-Zour eight people were killed and dozens of others injured as a result of a car bombing in a marketplace in Al-Mayadin city, SOHR went on.
In the rural outskirts of Damascus 14 people, including nine opposition fighters, were killed in clashes between the Islamist and secular opposition groups, on one hand, and the regular troops and pro-regime militias, on the other.
The regime forces launched a missile attack on opposition fighters who claimed that they killed seven pro-regime militiamen in Al-Qalamon district of Damascus, SOHR added.
The state-run SANA news agency said the rebel groups launched mortar attacks on Al-Abbasyyn, Al-Qassa'e, Rokn-Eddin and Al-Fayhaa districts of Damascus.
Two people were injured in the attacks, it added.
Meanwhile, 13 people were killed in the northern governorate of Idlib as a result of air attacks by the regular army, according to Shaam News Network.
In a related development, 11 seriously wounded Syrians have been admitted into hospitals in Arsal town, northeast Lebanon, at a time when the Lebanese army is conducting an operation to control the area in the wake of attacks on Syrian refugee camps. (end) tk.ayb.gb
