KOTC gets delivery of giant tanker

KUWAIT, May 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has got official delivery of a new giant oil tanker following the completion of all required building programs and tests in line with preset specifications and world laws.
The delivery was attended by officials from KOTC and South Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) as well as the ambassador of South Korea to the State of Kuwait, the company, which is a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), said in a press release.
The new oil tanker "Darwaza", which has a total tonnage of 2.2 million barrels, is part of a five-tanker deal whereby the KOTC has already received two tankers from Daewoo, it said.
The delivery is part of the third phase of the company's plan to revamp its tanker fleet which includes four giant oil tankers, an oil product tanker and four double hull oil product tankers, it added.
With the addition of this new tanker, KOTC's total fleet size has become 24 tankers with different sizes and purposes, the company pointed out.
The new giant oil tanker is 330 meters long and 60 meters wide, and has a draft of 22.5 meters and a speed of 16.2 knots per hour, it said.
Moreover, the KOTC is expected to get delivery of two more tankers as part of its continuing efforts to update its fleet.
Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) is mainly involved in the ownership and management of tankers engaged in the transport of crude oil, refined petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gases (LPG).
In addition, it also operates a Marine Agency Branch, acting as sole agent of all tankers calling at Kuwait's sea port and a Gas Branch for the filling and distribution of LPG cylinders for local industry and domestic consumption. (end) asj.nfa.mt
