KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- A senior humanitarian relief aid official of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) appreciated here on Thursday the Kuwaiti political leadership's support for GCC Red Crescent societies.
Speaking at the final session of the 10th meeting of chiefs of GCC Red Crescent societies, Assistant Secretary-General of the GCC for Humanitarian and Environmental Affairs Abdullah Al-Hashem thanked Gulf Red Crescent societies for their keenness to promote and develop joint cooperation.
He said the GCC Secretariat is proud of the role played by all the GCC Red Crescent societies in the field of relief and humanitarian activities in Somalia and Sudan as well as other disaster-hit countries.
He congratulated the Saudi Arabia Red Crescent Authority on becoming an International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) board member, and also congratulated Kuwait Red Crescent Society Chairman Barjas Al-Barjas on winning Henry Dunant Medal, which is the highest award of the Red Cross Movement.
On his part, Al-Barjas made several significant recommendations, especially those related to Syria, Yemen and Somalia, which were approved during the 10th meeting of chiefs of GCC Red Crescent societies.
Speaking to KUNA, he said the meeting had stressed the significance of coordination among the GCC Red Crescent societies about relief and humanitarian activities in order to ensure ease and fast access to all disaster-hit countries. (end) ha.nfa.mt
