GCC states agree on mechanism to implement Riyadh document

RIYADH, April 17 (KUNA) -- On behalf of their respective countries, GCC foreign ministers agreed Thursday on a mechanism to implement the Riyadh document, based on the GCC council principles in their main statute.
After meeting here, the ministers said in a statement, that this historic achievement for the GCC comes after 33 years of hard work aimed at the best interests of their citizens, and paves the way to move to a more secure and stable situation, particularly in facing future challenges in a unified, solid, and coherent way.
The statement noted as well to the key role played by Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in reaching desired results.
The ministers also underlined that it was particularly essential to follow up on what has been agreed upon and to maintain all that has been gained and achieved up to this stage.
Also moving firmly onwards to overcome obstacles and challenges and to meet the hopes and aspirations of GCC citizens.
The ministers pointed out to joint affinities, destiny and historical ties, that push forward the common march of GCC states.
The talks discussed a comprehensive review of the procedures in place in relation to the adoption of foreign and security policies, which were agreed upon, including adopting mechanisms to ensure working as a group.
The statement added that, such policies will not affect any of the security and stability interests of the countries and will not interfere with their sovereignty.
Last night, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said that Gulf nation leaders are keen to maintain inter-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) cohesion among their countries and peoples.
"Gulf countries become better and stronger by overcoming all obstacles," Al-Zayani told reporters following the conclusion of a ministerial committee tasked with following up on the implementation of joint action plans.
Also last night, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry Khaled Al-Jarallah said that "inter-Gulf divergent views are to disappear soon as there are positive signs for containing them." "Matters are tending favorably towards containing (inter-Gulf) differences and burying the hatchet," Al-Jarallah said to reporters following a GCC meeting. (end) yms.mb
