KUWAIT, April 2 (KUNA) -- Gulf Cooperation Council finance and economy undersecretaries discussed a customs union and a common market on Wednesday as part of plans for economic integration between the six-nation regional bloc.
The need to complete pending issues on the customs union, like custom fees and the protection of domestic commercial agents, in the quickest time possible was stressed by the Kuwaiti Finance Ministry Undersecretary and head of the GCC undersecretaries committee Khalifa Hamada.
He also underlined the need to launch the proposed common market in the aim of reaching full integration followed by union, as collectively called for by the leaders of the region.
Meanwhile, the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Abdullah Al-Shibli said that the meeting discussed memos on these issues presented by member states.
Other issues on the talks' agenda consisted of the relationship between the GCC and regional and international organizations, as well as the need for a united vision on economic and development-related affairs at global podiums. (pickup previous) mjb.sd
