WASHINGTON, March 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Ambassador to the US Sheikh Salem
Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said a Kuwaiti delegation held official talks with
the US side Wednesday morning on the destiny of the two Kuwaiti nationals
Fawzi Al-Owdeh and Fayez Al-Kandari who are imprisoned at the US Guantanamo
jail.
"The constructive talks are helpful in speeding up the repatriation of the
two detainees to the State of Kuwait," Sheikh Salem told KUNA.
"A medical security delegation visited Guantanamo yesterday and got
reassured about the health and safety of the two Kuwaiti detainees there," he
disclosed.
"Today's meeting is part of a chain of meetings between the Kuwaiti and US
sides on this file pursuant to the instructions of His Highness the Amir
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for the repatriation of the two
detainees to Kuwait as early as possible," Sheikh Salem pointed out.
This file is a top priority for the Kuwaiti political leadership and also
features in the constant contacts with the US Embassy in Kuwait, the
ambassador added.
The Kuwaiti delegation, made up of officials from the ministries of foreign
affairs, interior and health as well as the public prosecution, met their US
peers in the presence of the defense lawyer of both detainees Abdul-Rahman
Al-Haroon. (end)
