Iran, Morocco agree to resume diplomatic relations

TEHRAN, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Morocco agreed to resume their diplomatic relations after four-year freeze, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced on Wednesday.
The agreement is the fruit of a phone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezouar.
The two countries agreed to reopen their respective embassies in each other's capital city and reactivate cooperation in various fields, the Iranian official affirmed.
Rabat had severed ties with Tehran in 2009 as a result of dispute over the two sides' attitudes towards the turmoil in Bahrain at that time. (end) mw.gb KUNA 052054 Feb 14NNNN
