MADINA AL-MUNAWARA, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah has announced Kuwait's approval of the Saudi-initiated draft Cultural Rights in Muslim World Document.
"Kuwait approves such a proposal and puts all potential to service it by every possible means," the Minister said in his speech at the opening session of the conference on Tuesday.
He added that the main goal of this document is to promote peace and constructive dialogue to service Islam and Muslim world. The Minister stated the document boost the real tolerant image of Islam.
Sheikh Salman said the draft document comes in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He asked other cultural ministers and heads of delegations partaking in the conference to approve the draft document and to assign the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) to prepare the final version of it.
The Minister also stressed the importance of the Eighth Conference of Ministers of Culture of member states of the Organizations of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressing hopes it would result in a series of resolutions and recommendation to help bolster cultural relations among Muslim countries.
He voiced great appreciation the efforts made by ISESCO in preparing the document. He noted that Kuwait is ready to offer all support to the ISESCO to help it better implement the OIC cultural strategy.
Under the patronage of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Eighth Islamic Conference of the Ministers of Culture of OIC countries kicked off early Tuesday.
The conference, themed "For Promotion of Cultural Rights in the Muslim World for the Service of Dialogue and Peace," is also attended by ministers of culture and heads of delegations and international organizations interested in cultural affairs.
The four-day event will tackle a wide array of cultural issues, mainly bolstering cultural and people-to-people relations, the plan of action to implement Saudi King's initiative for inter-faith dialogue, the document of the cultural rights in Muslim countries, the Muslim declaration for cultural rights, the member states' reports about the implementation of the OIC cultural strategy.
The conferees will also elect new members for the OIC cultural strategy consultative council and Muslim world heritage committee. (end) yms.ibi KUNA 212222 Jan 14NNNN
