BRUSSELS, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The Dutch water supply company Vitens is to pull
out of a deal with Israeli firm Mekorot, Dutch media Wednesday reported.
The company argued that the issue is politically sensitive and stressed
that it places great emphasis on integrity and adhering to national and
international laws.
Vitens in a statement added that the Mekorot project cannot be seen in
isolation from the political context.
Mekorot is Israel's national water company and is involved in supplying
water to the Jewish settlements on the occupied West Bank.
The media reports said a planned visit by Dutch aid minister Lilian Ploumen
to Mekorot last weekend was cancelled because of the political sensitivities.
In September, Dutch civil engineering group Haskoning pulled out of a
project to develop a waste water treatment plant in Jerusalem due to concerns
that it could conflict with international law. (end)
