Today in Kuwait''s history

KUWAIT, Nov 11 (KUNA) -- 1777 -- English vessel visited Kuwait and officers drew a navigation map for their journey which included the first semi-accurate description of the area and Kuwait Bay is drawn much like it is today.
1962 -- Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, endorsed and issued the constitution in 183 articles under five main categories.
1970 -- The State of Kuwait opened its embassy in Bulgaria.
1970 -- Kuwait endorsed the agreement on establishing the Arab Health Organization which was ratified by the Arab League Council on March 11, 1970.
1997 -- Rainfall in Kuwait recorded a high of 65 millimeters. The unusual amount of rain lead to floods in the streets and caused the death of six people and more than 100 accidents. Flights at Kuwait International Airport were stopped.
2001 -- Iraq attacked Kuwaiti territories with mortar shell and gunfire volleys across the border dividing the two countries.
2002 -- Dr. Mohammad Abdulrahman Al-Saraawi, Chairman of the Environment Public Authority, won a special American award for environment research.
2004 -- Kuwaiti representatives attended the funeral of Palestine Liberation Organization chief Yasser Arafat in Cairo.
2005 -- United Nations Secretary General stopped in Kuwait on an official three-day visit.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sponsored a ceremony by Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry marking its 50th anniversary, and the Amir, the chamber honorary chairman, was honored during the event.
2010 -- Bader Al-Awadhi presented his credentials and starts tenure as Kuwait's first resident ambassador to Cuba.
2010 -- Kuwait gave the International Labour Organization (ILO), a UN agency, an extraordinary financial contribution of USD half million to fund capacity building programs in Kuwait and other programs in the region. (end) wsa KUNA 110922 Nov 13NNNN
