KUWAIT, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait rejected reports it would be occupying Saudi
Arabia's seat at the UN Security Council, according to its Foreign Ministry
Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah.
"Kuwait forms a part of the efforts currently being carried out to convince
Saudi Arabia to reverse its decision (not turn down a non-permanent Security
Council seat)," he added.
"Kuwait is aware that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and what it represents
of a constructive role and political weight, is able to have an impact on the
Security Council endeavours in solving a number of affairs, through its
occupying of its seat at the Security Council," he explained.
CNNArabic had reported today that it was informed by sources in the Kuwaiti
government that "Saudi Arabia's seat at the Security Council - it had turned
down after being recently granted - will be occupied by Kuwait." (end)
