One dead, 8 injured in explosions near China Communist Party office

TOKYO, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- One person was killed and eight others were injured after explosions occurred on Wednesday in front of the provincial headquarters of China's ruling Communist Party in the northern city of Taiyuan, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
The blasts took place at around 7:40 a.m. (2340 Tuesday GMT) in front of the office building of the Communist Party's Shanxi Provincial Committee on the Yingze Street in Taiyuan, the city's public security bureau said, according to the report.
Among the eight injured, one was seriously wounded. The accident is suspected to be caused by self-made bombs as steel beads were scattered at the scene, the report said. A minivan blasted with heavy smoke and spread a lot of debris at the scene when he waited for traffic lights in front of the office building, Xinhua quoted a witness as saying. Police are investigating the case.
Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi Province. The blast came after a car crash at downtown Beijing's Tian'anmen Square on October 28, which killed eight people including three ethnic Uygurs inside the car and injured 38 others. The Chinese government has called the Beijing accident as "a terrorist attack" organized by the East Turkistan Islamic Movement. (end) mk.aa KUNA 061054 Nov 13NNNN
