ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Pakistani school girl Malala Yousafzai who was
shot in the head last year by militants for campaigning for girls' education
has won another human rights award.
The award is named for a murdered Russian journalist and is presented each
year to a female human rights defender by group RAW in WAR.
According to RAW in WAR, they chose 16-year-old Malala Yousafzai "for her
courage to speak out when nobody else dared, for her strength to give a voice
to the many women and girls, whose voices cannot be heard, and for her
passionate belief in promoting education for girls."
Malala Yousafzai was declared winner of the Anna Politkovskaya Award and
received the award in London from 104 years old Nicholas Winton, who rescued
Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. Holland based NGO Kids
Rights Foundation has recently given Malala Yousafzai an International
Children Peace Prize and she is also nominated for the Nobel Prize that is to
be given on October 11.
Malala Yousafzai, born 12 July 1997 was a Pakistani school pupil and
education activist from the town of Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan's
northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. She is known for her education and
women's rights activism in the Swat Valley, where the militants had at times
banned girls from attending school.
The militants shot Malala Yousafzai in the head in last October and she
flew to Britain for surgery for her head injuries and returned to school in
Birmingham in March. The attack on the 16 years old girl drew worldwide
condemnation and she spoke at the United Nations to call for worldwide access
to education in July 2013. (end)
