GAZA, Sept 30 (KUNA) -- Officials from the Israeli Likud party, led by
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pledged to prevent him from making any
agreements with the Palestinian Authority.
This pledge was revealed by member of the Likud Knesset and Deputy Minister
of Defense Danny Danon who announced his and the party members' rejection of
establishing an independent Palestinian state on Monday on Israeli radio.
A number of the far-right leaders have met on Sunday with Danon at the
Likud Central Committee in order to set the peace plans for Netanyahu and to
prepare him to face the pressure he might undergo when meeting with the US
President Barack Obama in Washington on Monday, according to Israeli radio.
President Obama is expected to ask Netanyahu to activate the peace process
with Palestine, the statement added.
"This effort is not against Netanyahu or his meeting with Obama," said
Danon after the meeting, stressing that he and the other party members are
"focusing on criticizing stances of Israel's chief negotiator Tzipi Livni with
the Palestinians who has made unacceptable negotiations."
"We will not keep quiet as Livni works on reaching an unacceptable
political deal with the Palestinians," Danon warned.
During the meeting, the Likud activists decided to put more pressure on the
party's four ministers regarding Livni's actions, according to the radio.
The Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Minister of Internal Affairs Gideon
Sa'ar, Minister of Communications Gilad Erdan and Minister of Energy and Water
Silvan Shalom will be asked to publicly stress their refusal of reaching a
temporary agreement with Palestine.
They also announced launching a campaign against any surrender presented to
the Palestinians, which will soon begin by the council of settlements in the
West Bank and Gaza Strip as they will use "radical" and "hawkish" statements
regarding the Israeli settlement, which were mentioned in Netanyahu's book,
entitled "A Place Under the Sun," in 1995. (end)
