NEW YORK, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- President of opposition Syrian Coalition Ahmad
Al-Jarba has commended State of Kuwait's relentless support for the Syrian
people, affirming the Coalition would not participate in Geneva II but "with
Arab attendance and guarantee, specifically from the Gulf."
Speaking to KUNA and Kuwait TV following his meeting with Deputy Premier
and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Al-Jarba said they
discussed "issues related to the Syrian revolution and the Syrian people, and
Kuwait's humanitarian, cultural and political support for the people, and its
support of the coalition."
In answer to a KUNA question, Al-Jarba said "we talked in a clear and
honest manner that we (coalition) will not go to Geneva II but with Arab and
specific Gulf guarantee, and that they are there with us.
"There is need to be a genuine Arab shield ... It is not possible to go to
Geneva II but with the Arab guarantees that I consider a shield and protection
for us," he added.
Al-Jarba said he and Sheikh Sabah agreed that the presidency of the
coalition visit Kuwait and the Gulf countries within the coming two weeks for
talks with the top oficials in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) "who we
consider the protectors and guarantors for the Syrian people."
On the UN Security Council's resolution to eliminate Syria's chemical
weapons, Al-Jarba said the resolution felt short of the opposition demands.
"We have requested a no fly zone" against the Syrian regime nor scud
missiles to hit civilians "and that was possible to add in the resolution."
