ANKARA, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- Stressing the Assad regime must be punished for
all its atrocities and not just the chemical weapons attack on its own people,
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told reporters, "the situation in
Syria calls for swift international intervention on humanitarian grounds and
to punish the regime in Damascus."
In remarks to the press following the cabinet's weekly session, the
spokesman said, "If the use of chemical weapons in Syria by the Bashar
Al-Assad regime is to be punished, this will be done by the United States." He
added it is best to wait and see what the US decides on the issue of
intervention next week.
Arinc expressed confidence US President Obama would convince the Congress a
military strike on the Assad regime is necessary and would later get green
light for such intervention.
Stressing Al-Assad had been bloodying his hands for over two years and a
half, Arinc said a limited strike would not be productive, warning military
strikes in "hit and run" mode could actually increase chaos in the country.
The spokesman said Premier Erdogan would be discussing the Syria dossier
and the situation in the Middle East with President Obama on the sidelines of
the G-20 meetings, due in Russia September 5-6.
Turkish media had earlier reported that Erdogan would be sharing a dossier
with the Russians which includes evidence that proves the Syrian regime's use
of poisonous gas in the Ghouta massacre that killed some 1,300 people.(end)
