AMMAN, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- The US Agency for International Development (USAID)
announced on Tuesday it was to provide USD 2.4 million worth of food aid to
societies in Jordan, which are suffering from food insecurity.
This aid program tends to provide assistance and help to around 160,000
Jordanians, suffering from food insecurity, through a mixture of food and
financial aid, Nancy Lindborg, USAID Assistant Administrator for the Bureau
for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA), indicated in a
statement, forwarded by US Embassy in Amman.
Also, Lindborg added that the program is a part of wider efforts of global
food aid in countering challenges faced by Jordanian people, whose country
hosts large numbers of Syrian refugees, praising at the same time the
Kingdom's efforts in this context.
According to the statement, the United States remains the single-largest
contributor of humanitarian assistance for the people of Syria.
The United States is providing humanitarian aid to help 3.5 million people
across all 14 governorates in Syria and continues to work through all possible
channels to deliver aid to those in need in Syria, including through the
United Nations, international and non-governmental organizations, and local
Syrian organizations. (end)
