KUWAIT, June 20 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Cabinet has approved a draft decree
on inviting voters to elect new members for the National Assembly on Thursday,
July 25, 2013, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah
Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah announced.
In press statements following a Cabinet extraordinary meeting Thursday,
Sheikh Mohammad said the decree comes in implementation of the Supreme
Constitutional Court's rulings on the parliament laws this week.
The Cabinet has also assigned the ministerial committee for legal affairs
to prepare other required draft decrees to complete the enforcement of the
Constitutional Court verdicts, Sheikh Mohammad added.
On Sunday, the Supreme Constitutional Court ordered the dissolution of the
current parliament, elected in December 2012, and the holding of new
parliamentary elections in a two-month period.
In another related case, the court rebuffed a challenge to law No 20 of
2012 which brought a one-person, one-vote system in place of the former rules
that allowed voters to cast ballots for four candidates. (end)
