KUWAIT, April 8 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Sabah has announced that the cabinet approved Monday a draft law on media regulation.
Sheikh Salman told KUNA Monday that the cabinet has also referred the bill to the National Assembly for deliberations and voting.
"The bill will regulate work of all press and media outlets and it aims to strengthen press and media freedoms," the Minister said.
He pointed out that the quick approval of the bill showed the government's eagerness to strengthen local media as well as the fruitful cooperation between the government and the parliament.
"The bill will replace all prison sentences' penalties against violators with fines except for those accused of offending Allah the Almighty," Sheikh Salman said. (end) jy.mb KUNA 081924 Apr 13NNNN
