BRUSSELS, March 4 (KUNA) -- Brigadier General Selim Idriss, commander and
chief of the Free Syrian Army, will be visiting the European Parliament in
Brussels for an open meeting following an invitation by the Alliance of
Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) on Wednesday, 6 March.
ALDE in a press release Monday said this will be a unique opportunity to
hear directly from General Idriss as this will be the first time that he has
travelled outside Turkey and Syria since the conflict began.
A German-trained electronics professor, he was a general in the Syrian Army
when he defected in July 2012.
Until he defected from Assad's army he was a professor at the Military
Academy of Engineering in Aleppo.
ALDE is the third-largest political group in the European Parliament. (end)
