CAIRO, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi chaired the
Palestinian committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on the fringes of the
preparatory meetings of Foreign Ministers for the 12th session of the Islamic
Organization Cooperation (OIC) summit that will be held tomorrow (Wednesday)
in Cairo.
The meeting focused on discussing in depth the Palestinian file. It was
attended by Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Palestine, Malaysia, Venezuela,
Algeria, Cuba, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Columbia, India,
and Signal.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said that the meeting was held on a
special request from his country in order to tackle detrimental issues to the
Palestinians such as the Israeli settlements and the Palestinian territories'
financial crisis.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr stressed, after the
meeting, that the security of the Gulf region is inviolable even though there
are visions of an Egypt-Iran closeness.
He further said that Arab Foreign Ministers share the same stands regarding
most of the issues presented in the preparatory meetings, especially the
Palestinian file which received unanimous approval to grant Palestine a
non-Member Observer State status in the United Nations.
They also were in agreement to find permanent solutions in ending the
ongoing bloodshed in Syria, the problems of Muslim minorities in some
countries as well as the phenomenon of Islamophobia. (end).
