CAIRO, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmad Bin Hilli has praised Kuwait's solidarity with the Syrian people warning that the crisis in Syria has dramatically deepened.
In remarks to KUNA, Bin Hilli said positive outcome of the Kuwaiti-hosted international conference for donors for Syria, held last week, was due to good preparation and organization for the event by the State of Kuwait, which had also contacted donor states, including Arab countries, to raise funds for supporting the Syrian people.
Success of the conference has proven that Kuwait is a main foundation for Arab solidarity, he said.
The USD 1.5 billion donations, earmarked at the conference, would help in soothing hardships of the Syrian people in and outside the country, pending a viable political settlement to the crisis, Bin Hilli added.
He called on the United Nations Security Council to take "a responsible stance to halt the blood-letting and resolve the crisis, because it if it drags on further, more blood will be wasted, state institutions will crumble and more complications will emerge." He urged both the Syrian government and the opposition to resort to wisdom and place higher interests of the country above any other consideration, warning anew that the military option would not solve the conflict.
