KUWAIT, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have pledged
USD 183 million to help the Syrian people, of them USD 100 million from Kuwait
charity societies, the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO)
announced Tuesday.
The Kuwait-based IICO announced the pledge in a statement at the conclusion
of a Conference of NGOs donors for the relief of the Syrian people, an event
that featured participation of 63 NGOs from Kuwait, Gulf, Arab and Islamic
countries as well as UN organizations.
Kuwait Public Awqaf authority pledged a USD million, while one million
Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) from Kuwaiti businessmen Mohammad Nasser Al-Sayer, and USD
250,000 from Kuwaiti businessman Abdulaziz Al-Babtain.
Kuwaiti chairty societies also pledged money, logistical and technical
support.
Meanwhile, the ICCO held a meeting between the NGOs participating in the
conference aimed at coordinating efforts over the just distribution of pledges
on the Syrian people.
ICCO honorary President Yusuf Al-Hajji, in a speech before the conference
earlier, called on all NGOs to intensify their efforts to help the Syrian
