TEHRAN, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's special envoy
and Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad met here on Saturday with Iranian
Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdollahian to
discuss the developments of the situation in Syria.
The extensive talks focused on the efforts to stabilize the situation in
Syria and the efforts of the Syrian government to combat terrorism, on one
hand, and hold a political dialogue with the opposition groups, on the other,
Abdollahian said in statements aired by the Iranian Al-Alam satellite TV
channel tonight.
The talks also dealt with the success prospects of mediation effort of the
Arab League-UN joint envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi as well as the outcome of
Muqdad's visit to Russia, he revealed.
Abdollahian added that the governments of both Iran and Syria share
identical views on how to stabilize the situations in Syria at a time when
regional and international powers started to focus on the political means to
end the crisis after the second Geneva meeting of the friends of Syria.
Muqdad, accompanied by Syrian Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnous,
arrived here earlier today from Moscow where he held talks with senior Russian
officials; he also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on
issues of mutual interests. (end)
