BAGHDAD, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- A Syrian fighter jet penetrated Iraqi airspace in
the border region of Al-Qaem coinciding with large explosions which were heard
in the town of Abu Kamal, eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq.
Official security sources told KUNA on Thursday that the Syrian fighter jet
penetrated the Iraqi airspace at a very low altitude and flew for a few
minutes before returning to the Syrian airspace.
The sources speculated that the fighter jet was on a mission to bomb
specified military targets in the Syrian town of Abu Kamal, near the Iraqi
town of Al-Qaem.
The Iraqi side had completely closed Al-Qaem - Abu Kamal border crossing
after receiving tips that the Free Syrian Army is taking full control of
Abu-Kamal area.(end)
