Gunmen kill police chief and his officer west of Iraq

BAGHDAD, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- A police chief and one of his officers were killed late Thursday in clashes with a group of gunmen in Al-Rutba twon, west of Iraq.
Three of the gunmen were injured in the encounter, a police source told KUNA on Friday.
The clash broke out minutes after a police checkpoint went under attack which resulted in the killing of the chief and one officer as well as the wounding of two other officers.
Meanwhile, Security measures were tightened in Abu Ghraib prison and its surroundings, amid sepculations that it might be attacked by Al-Qaeda group which has been recently targeting prisons, checkpoints and police patrols in the country. (end) aha.nfm KUNA 031020 Aug 12NNNN
