BAGHDAD, July 26 (KUNA) -- Five Iraqi policemen and six militants were killed in clashes in Baqubah, 60 km northeast Baghdad, on Thursday, an Iraqi police source said.
The incident took place when a military convoy coming from Baghdad to support an operation to hunt down armed groups at Al-Hadid area to the northwest of Baqouba got engaged in a confrontation with wanted militants, the unidentified source told KUNA.
Another thirty-eight militants were arrested during the 24-hour confrontation, the source added.
Iraqi joint security and army forces occasionally carry out operations to chase militants at large everywhere in the country. (end) mhg.mt KUNA 262035 Jul 12NNNN
