PARIS, May 16 (KUNA) - The French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday vigorously
condemned fresh violence carried out by the security forces in Syria and an
unclaimed attack against a convoy of UN observers.
"We condemn with the greatest vigour the new assassinations perpetrated by
the forces of the Syrian regime against their own people," a statement here
said.
"We denounce, particularly, the firing by these forces on a funeral in Khan
Sheikhun, which caused the deaths of twenty people, as well as the attack that
targeted a convoy of UN observers," the French Foreign Ministry said.
"It is up to the Syrian authorities to assure the protection and security
of observers," it remarked.
France also called "firmly" on Damascus to accept the condition for the
distribution of humanitarian aid, which it said was needed by over one million
Syrians.
"It is unacceptable that Damascus persists in refusing access to
humanitarian bodies and to the United Nations," since the visit to Syria by
senior UN humanitarian officials at the beginning of March, the statement
complained.
France also called for a "remobilisation" of the international community
faced with Syria's contempt for the cease-fire and the deterioration of the
situation on the ground.
The statement said that the next report of the UN mission in Syria would
allow the Security Council "to take the required decisions." (End)
