GAZA, May 9 (KUNA) -- The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a
liberation movement called on Wednesday for a third uprising in solidarity
with the 23rd consecutive day of hunger strikes by Palestinian prisoners in
Israeli jails.
Rabah Muhana, the group's prominent leader, made the call during a visit to
a Palestinian camp in Gaza, where he noted that the liberation of prisoners
must be one of the main goals for the uprising, in addition to calls to
improve their prison status, which he described as inhumane.
The Palestinian official added that such a step also comes in response to
Israeli continuous aggression and settlement policies, especially with regard
to calls for early Israeli elections.
"To ensure the success of the uprising, all Palestinian factions must unite
on the prisoners' issue, along with goals set to continue through the stalled
Palestinian national reconciliation, in particular between the groups of Fatah
and Hamas," Muhana added.
Muhana explained that an uprising and uniting of efforts for this cause
would also bolster means to unite political parties and help end the division.
